Times are Uncertain: Meditate on these 7 Scriptures to make it through

Life is complicated, and it’s hard to know what to do, especially when you don’t know what the future holds. Thankfully, God, the One who holds our future in His hands, encourages us through His word.

As we are living through a pandemic, weathering the storm of economic uncertainty, dealing with racial injustice, political unrest, social inequities, and more negative national and global news than we can handle, EEW Magazine Online recommends that you read and focus on these 7 Scriptures.

"I am the LORD, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?” (Jeremiah 32:27 It’s easy to forget that just because something is hard for you to handle doesn’t mean it’s too hard for God. Although He doesn’t solve every problem overnight, and He allows you to go through difficult tests and trials, there is something of which you can be sure: God has a plan, and His purpose will prevail in the end.

“Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.” (Psalm 139:16) When it comes to future events and how they will unfold, you and I are short on details, but God is not. This psalm helps you understand that before you were ever born, God knew everything that would occur in your life – even this. He is not surprised by any of the current circumstances you face, and He has made provision for every need.

But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty.” (2 Timothy 3:1) The Bible does not sugarcoat life and pretend that times will always be sweet. God warns us that difficult moments will come, and every day won’t be easy. Yet, there is good news. Jesus said in John 16:33, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Since you know Christ has overcome, you can be confident that you, too, are an overcomer through Him!

“The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.” (Isaiah 40:8) You can’t always rely on people, circumstances – or even yourself – to be reliable. But you can rely on God’s trustworthy, dependable, unfailing word at all times. In changing seasons, uncertain moments and troubling days, His word neither fades nor fails. It endures forever! That means, every promise will be fulfilled, and every principle will work. Even when the earth seems to be shifting beneath your feet, if you remain anchored in God’s word, you will be stable.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah” (Psalm 46:1-3) Disaster may be everywhere, but so is God. Not only is He ever-present, but He is omnipotent, meaning He is all-powerful! This psalm focuses you on the fact that God will shield, protect, and cover you in the time of trouble – no matter what kind of trouble it is. What an amazing comfort that is in uncertain times!

“Then the high officers, officials, governors, and advisers crowded around them and saw that the fire had not touched them. Not a hair on their heads was singed, and their clothing was not scorched. They didn’t even smell of smoke!” (Daniel 3:27) When three Hebrew boys were thrown in the fiery furnace for their loyalty to God, it looked like they would surely be consumed. But when it was all said and done, they suffered no burns and didn’t even smell like smoke, because a fourth man was in the fire with them (v. 25), just as Jesus is with you in your fiery furnace of affliction. Not only will you come through this, but you won’t look like what you went through.

“Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.” (James 1:2-3) Though your time of testing doesn’t feel good, Scripture tells you to rejoice, because you’re not just going through it, you’re also growing through it. God is molding you and teaching you to have patience and endure hardship. Therefore, view your rough phase as a season of maturation and preparation for bigger and better things to come.

See how the word of God puts things into perspective and lifts your spirit? Whenever you’re feeling anxious, nervous or worried about what’s ahead, meditate on these and other verses, and you’ll be feeling stronger in no time!
