Jesus saves. Not just from sin, but also from depression.

While accepting the EE "Rising Star" award at the British Academy of Film and Television arts (BAFTA) Awards Sunday, Black Panther star, Letitia Wright, who is an outspoken and unashamed servant of Christ, shared how her faith helped her win her own battle with depression.

"I identify myself as a child of God,” said the 25-year-old as she accepted the award formerly known as the Orange Rising Star Award, which is the only award voted on by the public in England.

Wright, who plays Shuri in two of Marvel's blockbuster films, Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War, told the audience, “I can't get up here without thanking God,” and sharing a testimony of personal triumph.

"A few years ago, I saw myself in a deep state of depression, and I literally wanted to quit acting," she said. "The only thing that pretty much pulled me out of that was God, my belief, my faith, my family, and an email from BAFTA saying that they wanted me to be a part of the BAFTA Breakthrough Brits, and I was like, 'let me try again.'"

The audience applauded loudly.

For those who may be currently battling mental health issues, namely depression, the Guyana-born and London-raised Wright, who admits to being “a work in progress,” said, "I want to encourage you that God made you and you're important.”

Despite “putting on a smile,” so “nobody can see” the suffering, she said, “you know it and God knows it, and I just want to encourage you, and I just want to say that God loves you and just let your light shine."

Wright’s light—or better yet the light of Christ—is indeed shining amazingly bright.
