California Gov. Gavin Newsom has selected Laphonza Butler, a Black, pro-abortion, LGBTQ+ Democratic strategist and adviser to Kamala Harris’ 2020 presidential campaign, to fill the U.S. Senate seat made vacant by the death of Sen. Dianne Feinstein.
