Faith and Football: Tasha Cobbs Leonard confirmed for 2019 Super Bowl Gospel Celebration

The Super Bowl appears to be struggling to secure African-American halftime performers because no NFL team will hire former San Francisco 49ers quarterback, Colin Kaepernick—a move viewed as punitive in regards to his decision to take a knee before games to protest police shootings of unarmed black men.

Notwithstanding, the organizers of the 20th Annual Super Bowl Gospel Celebration don’t seem to be having the same issues; it just added Gospel’s leading vocalist, Tasha Cobbs Leonard, to its lineup.

“It is not a praise party without Tasha Cobbs Leonard!” reads a message on the event’s official Instagram page, adding, “We are thrilled to have her with us.”

The Super Bowl Gospel Celebration, which is sanctioned by the National Football League (NFL), is getting ready for its live taping Thursday, January 31, 2019 at the Atlanta Symphony Hall. The huge night of praise brings together gospel artists, athletes and other special guests on one stage for a time of fellowship, uplifting music, and inspirational messages.

“Super Bowl Gospel Celebration is by far the largest multi-cultural event to take place during Super Bowl weekend,” said Melanie Few-Harrison, co-founder and producer of the event, in a previous statement. She touts the “beauty of diversity and the impact that faith and football can have in helping us all to find a unifying team spirit off the gridiron.”

In addition to Cobbs Leonard being confirmed, multiple GRAMMY® Award-winner, Kirk Franklin, has been added to the bill.

“We founded this event to bring even more inspiration and celebration to one of the biggest events of the year — the Super Bowl,” said Few-Harrison.
