10 scripture-based prayers every believer should pray for our nation

EEW Magazine // Faith

Many sing God Bless America, but it will take more than a song to see the blessings of the Lord rain down upon our nation. Psalm 33:12 tells us, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage!”  Has America truly chosen God?

In the face of corruption, moral relativism, greed and incessant pleasure-seeking, one thing becomes clear: our nation has not chosen God.

So here are 10 scripture-based prayers every believer should pray forAmerica if they want to see it prosper.

Prayer 1: Pray that the nation would seek forgiveness from sin and turn back toward righteousness.  “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)

Prayer 2: Pray for God to rule in all things. “For kingship belongs to the Lord, and he rules over the nations.” (Psalm 22:28)

Prayer 3: Pray that the light of the Gospel will shine brightly and turn hearts to Christ. “In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” (2 Corinthians 4:4)

Prayer 4: Pray that God will appoint leaders that walk righteously before Him. “When the righteous increase, the people rejoice, but when the wicked rule, the people groan.” (Proverbs 29:2)

Prayer 5: Pray that God’s will may be manifested on earth. “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” (Matthew 6:10)

Prayer 6: Pray for an intense desire to please God that surpasses the desire to appease political parties. “We must obey God rather than any human authority.” (Acts 5:29)

Prayers 7: Pray for compassion and good treatment of immigrants and those who are in need. “He makes sure that orphans and widows are treated fairly; he loves the foreigners who live with our people, and gives them food and clothes. So then, show love for those foreigners, because you were once foreigners in Egypt.” (Deuteronomy 10:18-19)

Prayer 8: Pray against the materialism and greed that rips nations apart and disenfranchises the poor. “He who trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like the green leaf.” (Proverbs 11:28)

Prayer 9: Pray for justice. “See that justice is done – help those who are oppressed, give orphans their rights, and defend widows.” (Isaiah 1:17)

Prayer 10:  Pray that we would love each other because that is what the world needs. "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” (John 13:34)

Feel free to add scriptures and prayers of your own daily. The most important things is being sure that you ask God to intervene in the affairs of life from personal to political, local to global.
