Rest In Heaven: Dr. Tony Evans confirms his wife Lois Evans has succumbed to cancer at age 70

One week ago, Dr. Tony Evans asked the faith community to pray that God would either heal his wife Lois Evans of cancer or take her home to heaven. God answered, and she breathed her last breath today. She was 70 years old.

According to an official statement posted on Dr. Evans’ social media pages, First Lady Evans died “just before the sun came up,” Monday, Dec. 30.

“The love of my life, Lois Irene Evans, transitioned from earth and watched her first sunrise from heaven,” said the pastor of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in Dallas, TX. “I had the privilege of holding her hand as she was lulled into eternity. Our four children surrounded her as well. As she slipped away, we told her how much we love her, how proud we are of her, and how thankful we are for the life she has lived.”

As previously reported by EEW Magazine Online, earlier this year, the pastor’s wife was diagnosed with a recurrence of a rare gallbladder cancer that came back after she was cancer-free for a while. Her family, along with millions within the faith community, believed for her miraculous healing.

“Thank you so much for praying for my wife and for my family. God answered our prayers this morning by relieving her of suffering,” said the 70-year-old widower. “But the truth is, He has been answering our prayers all along. Lois lived beyond medical expectations, not once, but over and over again. God has been so kind to give us more time to make wonderful memories.”

Last week, Dr. Evans explained in a video message, “The doctors said almost eight weeks ago that we had a couple of days, maybe a couple of weeks. Well, it’s eight weeks later, and Sister Evans is still here. And even though things look like they’re closing out on this side of heaven, your prayers have given us time.”

After defying the odds, First Lady Evans’ time on earth came to a close, and the family who adores her is grieving.

“While we know the coming days will be challenging, right now we are grateful for the life and love of a woman who planted seeds that will bear fruit for generations to come,” said Dr. Evans.

He ended his statement by saying, “Thank you for your continued prayers for our family as we grieve, and also for your patience as we finalize our plans to honor her life.”

Pastor Evans and his late wife built a thriving mega ministry together that now reaches millions of people around the world through The Urban Alternative—a Christian broadcast and teaching ministry launched in 1982 that is heard on more than 1,200 radio stations in over 130 different countries.

Lady Evans was an author and the founder of The Pastors’ Wives Ministry and the First Lady Conference. In 1996, she received an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Eastern College. She traveled throughout the United States, the Caribbean, China, India, South America, Europe and West Africa. She leaves behind her husband and four children: Chrystal, Priscilla, Anthony, Jr., and Jonathan, five granddaughters and eight grandsons, and two great-grandchildren.

Though she has transitioned into eternal rest, the ministry work continues, and her legacy will live on through her family.
