International gospel singer Sammie Okposo outs his own infidelity online, then deletes Instagram and Twitter

Scripture instructs believers to confess their faults as a prerequisite to healing (James 5:16)—something multiple award-winning Nigerian gospel international singer and producer, Sammie Okposo, did, leaving supporters reeling and devastated.

On Tuesday, Jan. 25, in a lengthy Instagram post, the 50-year-old musician confessed to stepping out on his wife of 11 years, Ozioma Okposo, 47, whom he wed in July 2010.

He then deleted his popular social media profiles on Instagram and Twitter.

Internet fodder over the scandalous affair reached fever pitch when Sammie Okposo’s mistress, who goes by the name of African Doll, alleged that the pair’s illicit relationship resulted in a pregnancy—one that the married singer had urged African Doll to terminate. She refused to have an abortion, however, and maintains that she plans to bring the child into the world.

According to African Doll’s account, she first began connecting with Sammie Okposo on Instagram last year, after which the singer invited her to a show in Houston in November 2021. Things blossomed and escalated from there.

In a lengthy post, Sammie Okposo said he was stepping down from all ministry obligations, as he seeks restoration and forgiveness for committing adultery during his travels. In the same post, the embattled gospel star apologized to his scorned wife and requested prayer from his broad base of Nigerian supporters.

In the now deleted post captured by EEW Magazine Online’s global news correspondents, Sammie Okposo wrote, “On my recent trip to the USA (late 2021), I got intimately involved with a lady, knowing that this was not appropriate as a married man and a minister of the gospel.”

He continued, “I am ashamed and regret my actions as it has caused a lot of pain to my dear wife, Ozioma, my family and I,” adding, “To my wife, Ozioma, I am sincerely sorry. Your forgiveness of my moral failure and poor judgment is important to me.”

At the time of publishing, EEW Magazine Online has been unable to obtain a statement from Ozioma Okposo.

In a 2016 exclusive with Sunday Scoop, Sammie Okposo said of his wife with whom he shares no children, ‘‘I married my best friend. She is a good woman, she is a supporter. She loves Sammie Okposo and not the superstar. We were friends for three and half years before we got married.’’
