Need to be reminded that God is in control? Drop everything to read these 7 verses

By Empowering Everyday Women // Spiritual // Bible Verses

We often hear it said that God is in control. But what do you do when everything around you and in your circumstances seems to contradict this truth?

You go to the word of God which offers promises and assurances to counter the attacks on your faith and help you remember that God is indeed in control and that all power is His.

If you need a reminder today, EEW Magazine Online recommends dropping everything and reading these powerful 7 Scriptures.

#1 Remember to whom authority belongs. “Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.’” (Matthew 28:18 NIV)

You don’t have to tiptoe around, feeling hopeless, powerless and at the mercy of your circumstances. Not as long as Jesus Christ, the Risen Savior, is alive and active, and all power and authority remains His. When life seems out of control, and you get weary along the journey, remember who’s in control and who has complete authority to transform your circumstances. His name is Jesus.

#2 God’s purpose always stands. “Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.” (Proverbs 19:21 ESV)

If you read the news, pay attention to celebrity culture, and follow politics, you’ll assume that the rich and famous and those holding public office have the most power. You may begin thinking that you’re doomed to fail, and their plans, politics and positions are destined to succeed. Wait a minute! While it’s true to some degree that wealth and status equal power, never forget that all power – both in heaven and on earth – belongs to God. And no earthly wealth, influence or status can overthrow the prevailing purpose of the sovereign one.

#3 Know in whom you believe. “And the men marveled, saying, ‘What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?’” (Matthew 8:27 ESV)

Remember when the disciples encountered a fierce storm and had no idea that Jesus had the power to calm it? They didn’t know that when He spoke to the winds and the seas, these forceful elements of nature had to obey Him. Unlike the disciples, however, we are not unaware of Christ’s limitless power. We know that He yet controls and calms storms. Furthermore, at His command, every storm in your life must yield and obey. Know in whom you believe, and be assured that when He speaks, things will align with His decrees. Speak Lord!

#4 God knows what you don’t. “Do you know the laws of the universe? Can you use them to regulate the earth? Can you shout to the clouds and make it rain? Can you make lightning appear and cause it to strike as you direct? Who gives intuition to the heart and instinct to the mind?” (Job 38:33-36 NLT)

In Scripture, in the midst of Job’s tough battle with sickness, poverty and grief, after losing everything, God challenged him with some tough questions. This divine line of questioning reminded Job and each of us that our God is sovereign, in control and all-powerful, and His ways and thoughts are above our own. The next time you question whether or not God is control and find yourself doubting His power, see if you can answer the questions the all-powerful one asks in Job 38.

#5 It all belongs to Him. “The earth is the LORD's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters.”  (Psalm 24:2 NIV)

Nothing is out of God’s reach. Nothing is beyond His understanding. Nothing was created without His power. In light of these facts, how is it that we worry that God can’t or won’t intervene in the affairs of life and create the outcomes He so desires? Everything we see in this great big world is under God the Creator’s control. Therefore, all things are in His hands, including you and your situation. Let that bring you comfort and joy today.

#6 God is all that and then some. “And God said unto Moses, ‘I Am That I Am’:” (Exodus 3:14 KJV)

When God sent Moses to rescue the Israelites from Egyptian slavery, Moses doubted his own capability and credibility. But God told him to tell Israel and the Egyptians that he was sent by “I Am”— the name for God that indicates that He was and is and forever will be self-sufficient, self-existent, and unchanging. And although Moses was met with resistance, God showed up powerfully and delivered Israel and defeated the Egyptians. This same God, The Great I Am, is alive and in control at this moment. Whatever you need Him to be, His word to you today is, I am that and then some.

#7 He never fails. “God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through?”  (Numbers 23:19 NLT)

Unlike humans that only have a degree of control and sometimes fail, God has all control and power, and there is no failure in Him. If He wills it, it will be so. If He says it, it has to happen. If He promises it, it’s guaranteed to manifest. With assurances like this in Scripture, why would believers ever worry? Be resolved to rest in God, and place your hope in His unfailing word.

As you can see, all 7 of these amazing passages will keep you in the right frame of mind to walk through the chaos of life with your peace intact. When you meditate on and internalize these Bible verses, you can go through each day knowing that God is never out of control, even when your circumstances are.
