Stay Spiritually Strong In Quarantine: 5 Scriptures to meditate on in solitude

Article By Beth Harris // EEW Magazine Online // Spiritual

Lengthy periods of being disconnected from everyone and everything can be hard on your mental and spiritual health if you aren’t nourishing your soul with the word of God.

Scripture is powerful. It helps get us through anything – even the hours of solitude while we quarantine in the middle of a global pandemic.

As you stay home for the health of your body, here are 5 powerful Scriptures to meditate on for the health of your spirit.

#1 “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!” (Isaiah 26:3 NLT) When you’re alone and things have slowed down, focus on Jesus. Meditate on His word. Bask in His love. This will help you remain in a peaceful state of mind, to rest, and be content through the transitions and seasons of life, whatever they are.

#2 “O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water.” (Psalm 63:1 NLT) As many long to go outside and return to normalcy, let your ultimate desire be to dwell in the presence of the Lord. Right now, certain natural desires cannot be fulfilled due to circumstances beyond our control. But when you spiritually thirst for fellowship with the Father, that thirst will always be quenched, and your soul will be satisfied.

#3 “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” (Matthew 6:33 NLT) Priorities are important, and when your number one goal is to seek God and please Him, you will never tire of doing what you need to do for your spiritual growth and development. An amazing benefit of prioritizing and doing the work of God is knowing that as you take care of God’s business, He’ll take care of yours and provide for every need you have.

#4 “I am the one who cut a path through the mighty ocean.” (Isaiah 43:16 CEV) When the Israelites saw the Red Sea in front of them and their enemies behind them, it looked like they were trapped (Exodus 14). There was no way out, until God miraculously created a path forward for them to walk across on dry land. Meditate on the fact that He is a God of miracles, and though it may seem that there is no way out of your dark place, He will make a way for you just as He did for Israel.

#5 “The vision will still happen at the appointed time. It hurries toward its goal. It won't be a lie. If it's delayed, wait for it. It will certainly happen. It won't be late.” (Habakkuk 2:3 GWT) Your life may have been put on hold, and plans may have been delayed. Yet, during this time of solitude, remember that God still controls the times and seasons, and at the right time, things will fall into place according to His perfect will. For now, rest, and be comforted by the promises in His word.

Solitude, though it might feel different and disruptive depending on your typical lifestyle, is not a bad thing, because God is there with you in the stillness. You are never alone. Use this time of being disconnected from places and people to be more connected than ever to God.
