Newly married gospel singer Kierra Sheard Kelly who is still in the honeymoon phase with her husband of one year, Jordan Kelly, has gotten some advice from her mom on how to make a marriage last.

“My momma has already told me, don’t have too many people around your house!” said the 34-year-old in an interview with Page Six to promote her new Lifetime movie, Line Sisters.

“I don’t care how good you trust them or whatever it is, I’m very mindful and careful. I would buy a friend a hotel room before I let them stay at my house,” said the “Love Like Crazy” songstress.

The mother of Sheard Kelly, Grammy-winning gospel singer Karen Clark Sheard, has been married to John Drew Sheard II since June 16, 1984, so apparently, she knows a thing or two about longevity in relationships.

Sheard Kelly’s revelation was met with mixed reactions on social media with some applauding it and others frowning upon it.

“Am I supposed to let them into my home? Because we as believers, we believe that what we have we are supposed to share with others, but I’m not sharing my man,” she said, explaining that she is “cautious.”

With countless stories of how both men and women have taken advantage of friends’ trust by sneaking and sleeping with their spouses behind their backs, the Eleven60 plus-size clothing designer isn’t willing to risk it.

“However, I am a prayerful woman to discern the space that I am in,” said Sheard Kelly. “And so, while I’m very prayerful, I’m also always asking God outside of mom to direct me.”

She said she prayerfully asks God, “In this season, am I supposed to let them into my home?”

For now, the answer is nope.

Well, though you might not be invited to their house, Mr. and Mrs. Kelly did invite close friends and family to their hometown of Detroit, MI, to mark their one-year anniversary with a huge, luxury wedding that had originally been derailed by the pandemic in 2020.

It seems that the two are enjoying their union so far and relishing their alone time.
